CHRIST: OUR KINSMAN-REDEEMER IN RUTH:
And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.(Ruth 4:6KJV).
Beloved, we are still on our search for this personality we are celebrating his coming to this interesting world. By the way, sometimes we get carried away in some activities of this life that we don't care to analyse some of the information we are privy to. I think that could be said of very many people in the world concerning the personality of Christ and the purpose of his coming . They celebrate him without knowing the purpose of his coming. That is what we want to look at in this piece. Meanwhile, search today is going to take us to the Book of Ruth where we see our Lord Jesus Christ as the Kinsman-Redeemer of all men. Now, let us look at the following:
1. THE CONCEPT OF KINSMAN-REDEMPTION IN THE SCRIPTURE:
If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away some of his possession, and if any of his kin come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold. (Lev. 25:25).
As a matter of fact, kinsman-redemption is an Old Testament concept and practice whereby a male relative will have the moral and legal right, privilege or responsibility to act for a relative who was in trouble, danger, or need of vindication. It, also, suggests that such a relative would have the right to stand in for the relative when he is dead, permanently incapacitated and/or unable to live up to his obligations.
Now, obviously, as far as our redemption from sin and its consequences is concerned, this concept most aptly applies to no other person than Christ, the ultimate Redeemer of all humanity. He came into the world for the purpose of redeeming humankind, who have been incapacitated by Satan through sin, from the slave market of Satan. He was in the world to die for our sins so that we might be made the righteousness of God. His coming into this world most imperative due to the fact that we could not help ourselves out of our captivity to sin .
2. THE COMING OF OUR KINSMAN-REDEEMER AS THE SAVIOUR:
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins : (Eph.1:7; Colo.1:14).
Christ Jesus came into the world to redeem us from the hand of he that was stronger than us-Satan. We couldn't extricate ourselves from the iron grip of Satan, sin and bad habits. It would take more capable hand to disentangle us who were incapacitated by sin from this captivity.
Now, Christ can be regarded as an example of a kinsman-redeemer since he identified himself with us and redeemed us because of our weakness and incapacitation. Hebrews 2:11 states that " For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,” .Jesus is not only our redeemer from sin, but as Hebrews 2:16-18 and 4:14-16 point out, he is a kinsman to us and understands our struggles. Thus he is able to help us in our times of need.
3.THE CONSEQUENCE OF OUR KINSMAN-REDEMPTION FROM ALL SINS:
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.(Titus 2:14).
True and genuine redemption from Christ, when it takes place, brings about an entirely transforming experience in man that make him or her a completely new person in character. It is not an imaginary experience, neither is it a theoretical thing. It is real and practical. When the Lord redeems us from the slave market and the vice-grip of sin, he does not leave us all alone to flounder on the sea of morality; He actually gives us the power to go and sin no more. And Jesus said unto her, neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. (John 8:11).
Now, the big question is, have you been redeemed by Christ, the Redeemer of all mankind that you are celebrating His birth? If not, why not now? May God help you to make up your mind this day to do that in Jesus name.
