INCUBATION TODAY (BRO EMMA OKORIE)
FRIDAY 4TH AUGUST, 2017
TOPIC: HOLY SPIRIT, COMFORTER AND HELPER
Meditation:
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” (John 14:16-17)
Today’s Text: John 14:13-26
When we yield ourselves wholly to the Holy Spirit, He arises to do what He alone can do: He helps us overcome poor habits, sicknesses, hardships and sundry weaknesses. This is why God, in His infinite wisdom, gave us the Holy Spirit. If the believer could do without Him, God would not have bothered to make him take up permanent abode within. God knows that we are constrained in diverse areas and that is why He gave us the Holy Ghost as comforter and helper.
The question is whether we have realized and recognised the presence and purpose of the Holy Spirit in our lives? Sometimes we merely see Him as an influence, a mere source of power, but the Spirit of God is more than all these. The Holy Spirit has power but that is not all there is to Him. The Holy Spirit is a person, a personality capable of being grieved. More often than not we render Him ineffective by grieving Him.
Sometimes we push Him aside and fail to recognize Him altogether. When we do this, we neutralize His power and make Him of no effect. We need to recognise Him, acknowledge Him and accord Him His rightful place as our comforter and helper.
The Holy Spirit is the chief executive of the Godhead. Once the Godhead has decreed a thing, the Holy Ghost comes to brood over and execute it. The Holy Spirit has a dual function. First, He works inside of us to execute the purposes of God in our lives. Secondly, He works through us to execute the purposes of God. These two purposes cohere.
You must therefore release God inside to have His way. Do not cage Him with carnal reasoning.
Sometimes our mountains appear bigger than they should making God look incapable. God never intended for us to live the Christian life by our own strength. The Christian life is meant to be a walk with the Holy Ghost who takes us one step to the other. If the truth is to be told, we struggle through life when we have pushed the Holy Ghost aside. He is the standby, our Helper and comforter if only we let Him.
Prayers:
1. Thank God for the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
2. Pray for the grace to yield yourself to the Holy Spirit
Confession:
Dear Lord, I yield myself to your spirit. Help me to work under His guidance always in Jesus’ name, amen.
Further Study:
Romans 5:5
“Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
Romans 8:26-27
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
2 Corinthians 3:17
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."
John 16:7
"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”
