FOLLOWING THE LORD WHO KNOWS THE WAY:
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. (Matthew 4:17-19)
Life is such a mysterious thing that it will require a guide who has divine ability and capacity to navigate the convoluted maze of its mysteries. Meanwhile, suffice it to say that, no human counselor or guardian of this world, no matter how experienced and knowledgeable, can adequately show us enough light that will effectively demystify the plethora of hidden and inexplicable things of this life.
In fact, the future is completely unknown to us, as far as our existence on this realm is concerned. That is why it is absolutely imperative and extremely important for us to take a decision to commit our lives into the hands of HIM who knows, understands and controls the future. That is, the LORD JESUS CHRIST who knows the way.
Now, the above painted scenario beg for a sensible decision from us to positively respond to the gracious invitation given above from the only eternal one, who knows the end from the beginning, which is our LORD and SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST.
As usual, we are looking at three perspectives to this piece. They are:
1. CHRIST’S CALL TO FOLLOW HIS LEADERSHIP WITHOUT FEAR:
And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. (Matthew 14:22, 25-29)
Did you know that living in this life is like walking on the water? You cannot predict the outcome of the next step you take. It is uncertain and unpredictable, that is why some people are afraid and apprehensive of taking it. Like the disciples in our above text, sometimes thoughts about the future bring fear and trepidation to our hearts.
Now, it is this situation that makes it absolutely necessary that we align our lives with the LORD, who knows how to effectively manoeuvre the mucky waters of this life. In other words, we have to give our lives wholly to HIM and take a decision to follow HIS Leadership without fear.
2. CHRISTIANS’ COMMITMENT TO FOLLOWING THE LORD IN FAITHFULNESS:
Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. (1 Corinthians 4:1, 2)
Christians, I mean, genuinely converted Christians are ministers of Christ, and stewards of HIS manifold mysteries. What does that mean? It means that they have the Holy Spirit that reveals the things of God to them in order for them to teach and instruct the ignorant sinners in the way of God.
Now, this status, places the Christians under a serious obligation of faithfulness to the Lord. He has to follow the LORD and HIS word faithfully. In fact, the believer has to make a deliberate commitment to following the LORD who has given him or her so much privileges.
3. COURAGEOUS CONSISTENCY IN FOLLOWING THE LORD BY FAITH:
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Following the LORD by faith will require courage and consistency. It will require some grit, if you will, to be able to follow the LORD by faith. This is due to the fact that there are challenges that Satan will bring in order to distract the child of GOD, and ruin his chances of making it to GOD’S eternal Kingdom.
Now, that is why we have to make up our minds, as children of GOD to follow the LORD by faith at all times, no matter what our lot in life may be. We have to be determined to follow HIM in spite of contrary circumstances. May GOD help you to do so, dear Friend, in JESUS NAME, AMEN.
