CHRIST : THE CAPTAIN OF OUR SALVATION IN THE BOOK OF JOSHUA

CHRIST : THE CAPTAIN OF OUR SALVATION IN THE BOOK OF JOSHUA:

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

And he said, nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, what saith my Lord unto his servant? (Joshua 5:13, 14).
Friends, for the past couple of days, we have traveled from Genesis to Deuteronomy in diligent and devoted search of the divine character whose story runs like a golden thread that connects all the books of the Holy Bible together. We have seen him as the Seed of the woman in Genesis; the Passover Lamb in Exodus; Leviticus presented him as the Great High Priest; In Numbers he appeared as the typological brazen serpent; Deuteronomy told us that he is the Prophet that will reveal God to us.
Today, we are looking for him in Joshua where he is portrayed as the Captain of our Salvation. Now, let us look at the characteristics of this unique Captain who leads us out of the bondage din into a battle against Satan.Three points we are adopting, as usual. They are the following :

1. THE GOD-GIVEN SUPREMACY OF THIS ULTIMATE CAPTAIN:
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Matt. 28; 18; Colo.1:16, 18).

As a matter of fact and reasonability, the supremacy of Christ, the ultimate Captain of our salvation, is an incontrovertible and indubitable reality. He is the supreme commander of the Heavenly Armed forces. The generalissimo of the Lord’s host. He is the ultimate conqueror of the hordes of evil powers. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. The Great Potentate.

And,anybody who downplays this fact does do at his or her own peril. We cannot reasonably controvert or contend the supremacy of Christ with safety. We cannot turn out back on this Great King crowned in heaven by God Almighty himself and still think we are out harm's way.Our safety and security in this life is only in Christ, this Captain of our salvation.

2. THE GREAT SACRIFICE OF THIS UNASSUMING CAPTAIN:
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. (John 10:17, 18).

One characteristic that is intriguing and inexplicable about Christ is the seamless combination of two extremely opposite estates or status in life in one personality. Think about it, have you heard that a supreme leader is also a submissive servant? A sovereign Creator is sacrificial lamb?It is only in Christ you find that uncanny blend of honour and humility.

In fact, the climax of Christ’s unassuming character was his sacrifice for our sins at the cross. He died a vicarious death in order to rescue us from damnation. He paid the full and final price for redemption. The million dollar question is,have you been redeemed from all your wind and evil habits? Have you confessed your sins to him? Are you born again? If you are not,why not give your life to this Captain of salvation.

3. OUR GLORIOUS SALVATION THROUGH THIS UNCONQUERABLE CAPTAIN:
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.(Heb. 2:10).

Beloved, did you know that you can be free from sin and all kinds of sinful habits? All your evil ways can be forgiven you, matter how deep you have gone into them. But,this will only be possible when you take a decision to repent of those sins and resolve to follow this unconquerable Captain of our salvation. That is to say,you have to take a step faith in all sincerity into forgiveness of sins. May God help you to do that in Jesus name.
